Throw Back Thursday - Before & After Living Room

A little #throwbackthursday post highlighting one of the very first jobs I tackled solo. This space was a very large living room, but it had character and the perfect dimensions and felt spacious but cozy.

Here was the floor plan:

With added notes to assist in the shopping process...

In a perfect world, I would have been able to convince the client to reface the fireplace with a beautiful stone in grays, charcoal and soft creamy whites.

In an effort to convince her, I made this comparative sketch.  But, you win some you lose some.

Here is another angle.

The large scale patterned area rug adds so much movement and interest.

I loved that rug.  Sigh...

Before:

After:

Traded the too-small tv and armoire for a larger piece to ground that side of the room and to better balance the scale of the fireplace and massive ceiling space in the room.

 After:

All in all it was an awesome project with a fantastic client!

What do you think about the fireplace?  Would you have left it in the original brick or opted to update it with the stone?  Let me know in the comments below!

Does anyone else wish that rug wasn't discontinued?  It came in a gorgeous charcoal colorway too.  Sigh...

Recent Bedroom Project

Recently Tapper Richards Interiors completed a project in a young girls' bedroom.

The clients were very satisfied, and the puppy thought the bed skirt was tasty!  Hop on over to the feature done on the MoPa Living blog for more pictures and an interview with yours truly.  http://mopaliving.com/s-room-tour/

We sourced lots of local shops for this project - including:

Kitchen & Bath Details
New Bedford Antiques at Wamsutta Place
What a Find!
The Rug Merchant
...and of course, my handy local workrooms for custom window treatments and furniture refinishing

Before & After from our latest Home Staging Gig

Before:

The living / family room of this large 3-bedroom home needed some adjustments to help boost it's positive impact.

After:

We placed the tv above the fireplace, creating a unified focal point and re-oriented the sofa to give the space a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.  Adding an additional occasional chair that wouldn't have fit in the previous floor plan gives the house hunters an accurate idea of how much seating can be accommodated in the space.  Also, being the perfect size home for a growing family, an area rug helped to ground the space with softness and warmth.

Before:

Multiple console-height tables in a two-room open floor plan space.  Similar adjoining artwork, abundant accessories.

After:  switch it up and create some balance, openess and softness.

What a fantastic project to be a part of.  The clients had moved out, but left plenty of furniture and accessories to play with and make the whole home ready for the market!
