Lighting Tricks
To make your space instantly cozy, it's really all about the lighting. If you have any rooms with only centered, overhead lighting fixtures consider adding Table Lamps or Floor Lamps to help draw your eye through the space. Overhead fixtures such as pendants, chandeliers or flush-mounts do serve a purpose, and some are absolutely gorgeous, but the centered, ceiling mounted fixtures can project oppressive down lighting and add little to no interest or ambience to an interior.  Unless of course they add so much glamour and style to a room like the starry ceiling pictured here from starscape.uk.co.

Adding portable fixtures around the perimeter of the room may make your space feel bigger, but it will undoubtedly make it more inviting and help accent different areas of the space. You might want to accent a reading chair or add task lighting to a desk - I would work at this desk below for hours!  (picasa.google.com picture via Natalie Page on Pinterest).
